SEEDS volunteers in this project will have the unique opportunity to work in 2 of the most amazing places in Iceland! Part of the time will be spent working at the largest National Park in Europe, the Vatnajökull National Park and the rest of the time at the Þórsmörk Nature Reserve!! In the national park, volunteers will support a research project on invasive species conducted by a team of scientist from the University of Iceland and additionally help in maintaining walking paths. In the nature reserve tasks will be diverse, therefore flexibility and open-mind is expected from the volunteers. The work is to be planned with the rangers and SEEDS coordinator. |

Reykjavík, the Icelandic capital, has been called Europe’s hottest capital. Slick advertising campaigns have championed the city’s famed nightlife. But there is more to Reykjavik than pubs and clubs. Reykjavík has held the prestigious title European City of Culture. SEEDS volunteers participating in this project will be part of the second SEEDS photo marathon in the Icelandic capital! One of the main objectives of the project is to try to deliver strong messages and draw the attention to the local population through pictures and photos made during the camp! |

This particular project will combine a learning/study content of Icelandic language and of work in the capital of Iceland. The lessons will be given in a language school located in the centre of the city; closely located to the accommodation place and within walking distance to all major attractions of Reykjavík. Suðureyri is located in the district of Tálknafjarðarhreppur in the Icelandic Western Fjords. Suðureyri, on the opposite –western- side of the fjord was the location of an old whaling station built at the end of the 19th century by Norwegian whale hunters. SEEDS volunteers will once again join a project in the community of Tálknafjörður and its surrounding area. Volunteers will specifically continue working at the old whaling station in Suðureyri. Volunteers’ work will mainly be focused on renovation and reconstruction works in the old buildings. |

The Reykjavík marathon is the largest sports event in the country. Volunteers will be working in a very practical way preparing for the marathon as well as working during the marathon run itself. |

Þórsmörk is situated in the south of Iceland, about 160 km from Reykjavík, between 3 glaciers in a place of surreal beauty. The only access to this wondrous place is by a powerful or altered jeep/truck to cross the treacherous rivers. The Þórsmörk natural reserve is one of the most beautiful places in Iceland, surrounded by natural boundaries like mountains, ice caps and Glacier Rivers & lagoons. SEEDS’ volunteer groups will support the administration of the reserve running the visitors’ area, the mountain huts, the housing facilities and the surrounding areas in the vicinity. Volunteers will support the rangers is all different types of activities. |

Borgarfjörður is a fjord in the west of Iceland near the town of Borgarnes. Borgarbyggð is a municipality in Vesturland region of Iceland.The waters of Borgarfjörður appear to be calm; however the fjord is on the contrary a rather dangerous part of the sea because of its undercurrents and shallows. There are many flat islands lying in the fjord, but for the most part they are uninhabited. SEEDS volunteers will be mainly working on the construction and maintenance of the trails and paths leading to few volcano craters and a lava field in the district of Borgarfjörður, West of Iceland. |
