The Þórsmörk natural reserve is one of the most beautiful places in Iceland, surrounded by natural boundaries like mountains, ice caps and Glacier Rivers & lagoons. Volunteers’ tasks in this project will be mainly focused on preparations of the area before the summer season as this is one of the most beautiful sites of the country and therefore very popular among local and foreign visitors, hikers and nature lovers. |

Reykjavík*, the Icelandic capital, has been called Europe’s hottest capital. Slick advertising campaigns have championed the city’s famed nightlife. But there is more to Reykjavik than pubs and clubs. Reykjavík held the prestigious title European City of Culture in the year 2000. SEEDS volunteers will support this year again Listahátíð í Reykjavík (the Reykjavík Arts Festival). Volunteers will be following the exhibition called “Campingwomen”, which will travel around Reykjavík during the Reykjavík arts festival (Listahátíð í Reykjavík). |

On 23rd January, 1973, an eruption began in Heimaey just before two o’clock in the morning. A fissure opened on the eastern side of the island. In six months a new volcano, Eldfell, 225m high, had appeared on the island and a new lava field lay to the east and covered 3.3 km2. Volunteers will be working on preserving Eldfell, which is the youngest mountain in Iceland. |

Hornafjörður is a blooming community in the realm of the largest glacier in Europe, Vatnajökull, in the South-East part of Iceland. Volunteers will be working on few different projects in the town of Höfn in the Hornafjörður fjord and its surrounding areas. The main tasks will be fixing walking paths and hiking trails. |

The workcamp will take place in the south of the Western fjords. The area is famed for its beautiful landscape and good weather with warm and sunny summers with gentle breezes, conditions which are hospitable for fishing, swimming, hiking and a variety of other activities. The tasks are varied and will depend on the weather conditions and sailing conditions as one of the working sites need to be reached by boat; Geirþjófsfjörður. Volunteers’ tasks will be mainly building and maintaining hiking trails and pathways in the area. |

The workcamp takes place in Fnjóskadalur, which is about 40 km long, and flowing through it is the Fnjóská River, the longest spring-fed river in Iceland. Volunteers will be working in the municipality of Grýtubakkahreppur in the north of Iceland on changing an old stall (sheepfold) into a family friendly place. |

The Icelandic highlands or “the interior” are a true pearl to all nature lovers and outdoors people. If volunteers really want to get away from it all, the interior of Iceland is like nothing you have ever experienced. The mountainous centre of the island, with its rocky deserts, craggy mountain peaks, ice caps, volcanoes, hidden valleys and hot springs, is an awesome and untouched wilderness.Volunteers will be working on few different projects, amongst those projects are discovering, building and maintaining hiking pathways. |

Þórsmörk is situated in the south of Iceland, about 160 km from Reykjavík, between 3 glaciers in a place of surreal beauty. The only access to this wondrous place is by a powerful or altered jeep/truck to cross the treacherous rivers. The Þórsmörk natural reserve is one of the most beautiful places in Iceland, surrounded by natural boundaries like mountains, ice caps and Glacier Rivers & lagoons. SEEDS’ volunteer groups will support the administration of the reserve running the visitors’ area, the mountain huts, the housing facilities and the surrounding areas in the vicinity. Volunteers will support the rangers is all different types of activities. |

The working site is located just 5 km away of the village Kirkjubaejarklaustur. The scenery is truly spectacular, with the glacier Myrdalsjökull to the west and Europe´s largest glacier Vatnajökull, containing Iceland´s highest peak, to the east. In the area there are homes of elves, they have a village close by and psychic people have seen the hidden people there. The main task will be building a walking pathway to a bird watching house. |
