Djúpavík is a small village in the North-West of Iceland. Perhaps one of Iceland's most remote areas, it is a sheltered bay in a remote region, largely untouched by modern developments where silence reigns and nature continues to shape a rugged, mountainous landscape. You can hardly get further away from the bustle of the towns to enjoy life in the beautiful and peaceful landscapes of this remote area. The bay Djúpavík is among the most remote and least frequented parts of the country. The roads up there are only open during the few months of the short summer; it is one of the remotest corners of Europe! |

The Þórsmörk natural reserve is one of the most beautiful places in Iceland, surrounded by natural boundaries like mountains, ice caps and Glacier Rivers & lagoons. The Thorsmörk area is bounded by Krossá River to the south, Markarfljót River to the west, Ljósá River to the north and the ice cap Mýrdalsjökull to the east. Thorsmörk is an idyllic place of exceptional meteorological conditions hidden in the embrace of glaciers and mountains and was actually a fjord from the ocean about 12.000 years ago. |

This part of the country is a great place to visit. Some of Iceland’s most precious pearls of nature are found there, including the northernmost point of the country on Melrakkaslétta (Arctic Fox Plain) and The Jökulsárgljúfur National Park with Dettifoss (probably the best known Icelandic waterfall and the most powerful in Europe) and the enormous Ásbyrgi canyon (a horseshoe-shaped depression measuring approximately 3.5 km in length and 1.1 km across!). |

SEEDS will work this year again with our volunteers in the district of HúnaÞing Vestra (Western Húnaþing). We will work in two different locations, for the first part of the project in the old boarding school of Reykjaskóli. After the first week there, we will move to the town of Hvammstangi (few kilometres away) and be part of the preparation and development of the programme for the local Youth Arts Festival “Unglist” - Unglistahátíðin ,,Eldur í Húnaþingi” or “Fire in Húnaþing”, which will be held between July 23rd and 27th, 2008. Volunteers with any kind of artistic skills are more than welcome and the organizers of the festival will try to involve them in the programme if wished.. |
